Can scales be installed on flat-base X-C skis?
I've got some wax-type X-C skis that I bought when I lived in New Hampshire, and I really like them. But now I live in a slightly warmer climate where no-wax X-C skis with fish scales on the kick-area are more useful.
These skis from NH never get used anymore and I'd like to install scales on their base. Does anyone know if this can be done, and how?
They are wood skis with a plastic base. I see two options to installing scales; 1. cut scales into the plastic base, and 2. remove the platic base in the kick area and glue-on a new base with scales. Both of these options present problems.
To cut scales into the existing base I can't yet imagine the best tool for the job.
To replace the base in the kick area with a scaled base, I don't know where a new scale base can be purchased. I might need to canibalize some other skis.
Can anyone show some light on this dark problem?
Thanks for your help.
