The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic ski teams wrapped up their regular season by competing in the Central Collegiate Ski Association Regional Championships Feb. 16-17 in Ishpeming, Mich. The Gustie women's team finished fourth in an 11-team field with 145 team points. Northern Michigan dominated the women's competition, taking the top three spots on both days and racking up 196 points. Alaska-Fairbanks was second with 168 points, while Michigan Tech scored 148 points to edge the Gusties for third place. The Gustavus men finished 6th of 10 schools with 98 points. Northern Michigan captured the men's title with 184 points, just ahead of Alaska-Fairbanks (172) and Michgan Tech (160).

Brynden Manbeck (Fy., Grand Rapids, Minn.) led the Gustie women in Saturday's 5K freestyle race, placing 15th with a time of 19 minutes, 35.4 seconds. One spot back was Laura Edlund (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.), who stopped the clock in 19:51.9. Kelly Chaudoin (So., Ely, Minn./Memorial) was the third Gustie across the line in 21st place with a time of 20:18.7. Sarah Willis (Jr., Willmar, Minn.) finished 24th (20:47.4), Ritva Taipale (Sr., St. Paul, Minn./Central) placed 26th (20:56.5), while Kathleen DeWahl (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Central) and Allison Bohn (So., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) crossed the line together in 29th and 30th place, respectively. DeWahl posted a time of 21:10.1, just edging Bohn, who was credited with a time of 21:10.4. Kathryn Ladig (So., Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) was the final Gustie across the line, placing 34th in a time of 21:27.6.

In Sunday's 10K Classic, Willis placed 12th overall to lead Gustavus, stopping the clock in 37:40.6. Chaudoin placed 17th (38:17.0), Manbeck finished 20th (38:53.0) and Edlund finished 22nd (39:29.0). DeWahl (39:40.1) and Ladig (39:41.9) crossed the line seconds apart in 23rd and 24th place, while Taipale placed 31st (40:36.9). Bohn rounded out the Gustie women's contingent with a 38th-place time of 41:35.6.

Willis, Edlund, Chaudoin were all in contention for one of the ten available qualification spots from the Central Region for March's NCAA Skiing Championships in New Hampshire but were edged out by Michigan Tech's Jenna Klein for the final spot.

On the men's side, Kevin Patzoldt (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) took top Gustie honors in both Saturday's 10K freestyle and Sunday's 15K classic races. Patzoldt finished 19th in the freestyle with a time of 34:18.8, and placed 24th in the classic with a 47:27.5 clocking. Scott Kyser (Sr., St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) was the second Gustie across the line both days, taking 34th in the freestyle (36:23.1) and 41st in the classic (49:50.3). Elias Anoszko (Jr., Dousman, Wis./Kettle Moraine) took 36th in the skate (36:42.2) and 46th in the classic (51:07.1), while Michael Paulson (Fr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) stopped the clock in 37:56.8 in the skate (48th place) and in 51:29.5 in the classic (47th place). Mark Hartman (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) completed the Gustie men's effort, placing 60th in the skate (39:40.4) and 59th in the classic (55:03.7).
