World Cup B Squad Strong in JPN Events

HAKUBA, Japan (Feb. 19) - Eric Camerota (Park City, UT) finished third Tuesday in a nordic combined World Cup-B individual competition at the 1998 Olympic jumping and cross country venues. Alex Glueck (Steamboat Springs, CO) was ninth as U.S. skiers completed a successful visit to Hakuba, posting eight top-15s in three events.

Tuesday, Germany's Mark Schlott produced the fastest 15K race to win the individual event by 12.7 seconds over Austrian Marco Pilchmayer. Camerota finished third in the field of 38 skiers, 19.5 seconds back. Glueck, second fastest in the 15K, moved up 12 places during the race to finish 2:23.4 behind the winner with Bryan Fletcher (also Steamboat) third fastest and 13th overall.

Monday, Camerota had the fastest 7.5K sprint race and advanced eight places to seventh overall, 53 seconds behind Jens Kaufmann of Germany. Fletcher, who was third fastest, finished ninth with Willy Graves (Putney, VT), who jumped to ninth place, 13th.

In a mass start event Sunday, Camerota also led the U.S. troupe, finishing ninth with 197.1 points. Pilchmayer won the event, which began with a 10K race and went to two rounds of jumping. Fletcher was 13th in the first event at Hakuba, about an hour from Nagano.
