There are probably more novices than there are people who are experienced running around

Maybe cross country become the common word for public consumption. In other words, it is a term that expresses what it is which makes it easier of a concept to grasp for newbies

Some of my friends wanted to go cross country, I am kind of scared that I won't be as prepared when it comes doing that. Does anyone know how much training you need to accomplish that?

Nordic reminds me of Scandinavia or Nordic Track. I prefer to use cross country even though it may not be "technically" correct.

I don't ever want to decide to go cross country and then get in the middle of the adventure and then don't want to complete it.

I'm not worried about that at all. I just want to be able to be in the best shape that I can be in when and if I choose to go.
