Default Williams Wins NorAm Sprint in CAN

VERNON, B.C. (Dec. 2) - Former U.S. cross country sprint champion Lindsay Williams (Hastings, MN) overcame steady snowfall Sunday to win a NorAm Cup 1.1K classic technique sprint. Olympic teammate Lindsey Dehlin (Mahtomedi, MN) was third and Colin Rodgers (Ketchum, ID/Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation) was third in the men's sprint.

"It was a good day, even with the snow," Coach Matt Whitcomb said. "Both Lindsays showed how important fitness is. They got stronger as the rounds [final heats] went on...and, obviously, they skied well."

Canadian David Nighbor won the men's sprint and Rodgers, a former Middlebury skier now training with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, was third. Mike Sinnott, a Sun Valley native who also trains with the SVSEF after graduating from Dartmouth, was fourth at Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre.

Saturday, the men raced a 15K freestyle race and the women competed over a 10K FR course in 10-degree weather. Ivan Babikov, the Russian who has relocated to Canada, won the men's race in 38:18.6. Dasha Gaiazova won the women's 10K in 31:16.7 with Morgan Arritola (Fairfield, ID) posting the top U.S. result as she finished fourth.

U.S. Ski Team racers compete next weekend in the USSA Cross Country SuperTour in Bozeman, MT.
