My advice is this, don't read about techniques. Do read about where to go, and go out and ski. Seriously, its way more fun learning the hard way, and you'll probably end up better that way anyways.

The most important thing about getting better is pushing what you feel comfortable with, don't let your fear stop you from anything.

You are correct in a way; it is much better to learn by doing. Having said that, reading and watching videos is a great way to prepare for your on snow training. It gives you an agenda and some idea of what movements you need to make to achieve the desired outcome.

Exactly, I mean why pay for lessons straight away when you can just read a couple of books, watch a couple of videos or just having a go yourself?

The day it snows here, which sadly we haven't had any snow since I was born here hehe but I can go up to the slopes in another town, anyway back to the subject, if I were to go skiing I would read a few things and watch a video as I have no experience in skiing, although I read about it and am interested in it.
