I need a new mode of transport for my skis next winter and am potentially looking at a ski tube - any good/bad experiences/opinions?

I sell ski tubes and ski bags at very reasonable prices. SporTube and other essential accessories Transpack The tubes are really for travel, ie airlines, trains, busses. Tubes protect your gear nmuch better than bags but padded bags do help protect your gear too. to load your skis in a tube they go tip to tail with the bases facing out and bindings held by brake retainers, doing this takes a little practice and I woudln't recommend it in the parking lot of a ski area. Bags are better for carrying gear to/from the ski area.
Also never put wet or snow covered gear in a tube or bag and leave it if you have to remove the gear as soon as opossible and dry thouroughly before rust develops on your edges.

^^^^Agreed.
I have both, but the SporTube is much better for travel. It will protect your equipment much better than a fabric bag. Edges are still easily damaged when fabric bags are tossed on & off airplanes. If you plan on doing much traveling with your equipment get a hard case...plus you can easily mail it to your destination.
