Six climbers killed in Switzerland
An investigation is under way after 6 Swiss soldiers died on a training exercise climbing The Jungfrau mountain in Central Switzerland. The men, who were in 2 teams of 3, were swept away by an avalanche. 8 other soldiers were rescued by helicopter in the disaster.
The soldiers were male recruits in the 4th month of their training. It's now reported they were on the southern face of the mountain when fresh snow gave way at 3,800 meters. They were on snow at the time but its not known if the snow gave way beneath them or it came down from above.
It's one the worst climbing accidents in recent years in Switzerland.
