Get down to the ‘bookies’ and place your bets! Bournemouth will have guaranteed snow on Sunday 17 December in the Town Square. Flurries of snow will be falling every 15 minutes and snowboarders will be performing demonstrations for the crowds on the Alpine Ski Slope.
The Alpine Ski Slope will be in the Square throughout the Christmas period, closed on Christmas Day and open again on Boxing Day until 2 January. It will close at 6pm on New Years Eve and the Alpine Bar will close at 8pm. Gugge 2000 carnival band will be celebrating the New Year and entertaining the crowds in the Square on Monday 1 January at 3pm.
Because of the major refurbishments on Bournemouth Pier over the winter, there will not be a fireworks display from Bournemouth Pier on New Years Eve due to access restrictions. However, The Showbar will be holding its final Jazz Juice night on New Years Eve, details on
Easyshopbar.
Inspector Neil MacBean from Dorset Police said: “If going out on New Years Eve as a group, make sure one of you remains in a position to keep an eye on all the others. Make a firm plan and stick to it. You'd be amazed at the number of people out on the town who forget where they're supposed to be! New Years Eve is always a very busy time and so it is a good idea to book everything in advance.
Late night transport, for example, will be in short supply so do pre-book your journey home with a licensed taxi firm. Finally, do have a very happy and enjoyable evening - Dorset Police and Bournemouth Council are working together to ensure you will be able to see in 2007 safely".
Classic Cars on the Prom will be holding its annual display of classic cars from 11am - 2pm on New Years Day on Bournemouth Seafront. And another great place to visit with the children this Christmas and New Year is Bournemouth Pier Arcade. It is open 7 days a week from 10am to 6pm. The only day it will be closed is for Christmas Day. It features all of the latest games and is fun for all the family.
