Puckett Second in Squaw Valley Ski Cross
SQUAW VALLEY, California (Feb. 9) - Casey Puckett, who finished second at the Visa Freestyle International at Deer Valley Resort, rallied his strength Saturday to finish second in the Squaw Valley stop of the Jeep King of the Mountain series, a week after suffering a shoulder injury.
Tomas Kraus of the Czech Republic, who currently leads the men's ski cross World Cup standings, won the men's heats and Michael Schmid of Switzerland finished third.
"I'm very happy with my results," Puckett said. "I was psyched just to be able to be out there and racing. It was pretty tough all day long and it was a really exciting final.
"I was happy to be on the podium and to be able to go into the final Jeep King of the Mountain up in Sun Valley in second place with a chance to win overall. So, we'll see how that goes."
Errol Kerr (Truckee, CA) Followed Puckett for U.S. results, winning the small final in fifth place.
"Today was going super well. I got off to a good start and made it out of the first round in first and I was able to win the quarter final round," Kerr said. "I got off to a bad start in the semi final. I was almost able to get by Michael Schmid, but he got the upper hand and made the final."
The Jeep King of the Mountain competition continues in Squaw Valley Sunday with skier halfpipe and concludes Monday with a snowboard halfpipe.
