Default Please Guide me to the best ski shops in SLC and Snowbird!

Hello. First of all i just have to say I'm Swedish and I know my English is not perfect...

I'm going to Salt Lake City over Christmas (19 - 29 dec) to ski and enjoy the time being in USA
But I'm also going to buy skis, but I don't know where or how...

I have no idea where I can find the ski shops in neither Salt Lake City or Snowbird (where we are going to buy ski passes). And will probably not be able to buy them in Salt Lake City, because the buses up to Snowbird just go 8.15 at the morning and 17.15 at the evening (i guess the shops are closed before/after, or?).

Which shop in snowbird/salt lake city is the best in price and has the most different new skis (all mountain skis) to test?

So please help me with some helpful information how i should buy the skis.

Yours very sincerely, Schnuff from Sweden

If there is any questions about language or anything else, just tell me and I will do my best to answer/correct

I will do a little research on this for you.

But I have a couple questions...

- How come you plan to but skis here in the US as opposed to Sweden?
- You will need either a soft case or a hard case to transport them home correct, will you buy that here as well? In which case, I would recommend buying everything in Sweden prior to your visit as it takes the better part of a day to buy and fit skis & boots properly. Buying your equipment at home could provide you extra time on the slopes and less hassle on your vacation.
- What type of skiing do you plan to do, on piste, off piste, backcountry, telemark, etc?

Awsome!

I have a soft case with me.
Okey I take it from start. I'm going to buy new skis and give my old ones to my brother. I will buy them in USA because I do not have time to test the skis before while I'm home in Sweden (I live in a city far from the mountains).
In USA I will find a ski shop and test a couple of skis and then decide which one I like most. I have all gear except the skis (and bindings).
Because I just can have one pair of skis I need allround skis. They have to be fun in the piste and at the same time have good potantial in the off piste, like Dynastar Legend Mythic Rider with 87mm at the waist (I have never test those, but I have heard they are good allround/allmountain skis)

I will live in Salt lake city. And what I need is a shop near the lift (alta or snowbird, right?) with many diffrent new skis so I can try more then one at the time. And also I need a shop to buy the skis (if the shop at the lift have good prices, I don't need more then one)

I appreciate your time! I need it because I'm really lost (I guess you can imagine ) about everything in USA and in Alta/Snowbird/Salt lake city (never been in USA before)
Thanks

I live in the SLC area and I would suggest visiting a shop called Canyon Sports for all of your ski ticket and rental needs. I would never buy your lift tickets at the resort as Canyon Sports usually has discounted tickets available at their shops. Here is a link to their discounts:

canyonsports.com - Lift Ticket Pricing

Another great place to rent skis and also find discounted lift tickets is called Ski N' See. They have locations all across the Salt Lake Valley. Here is a link to their site:

Ski N' See || About Us || Professional service*and affordable ski and snowboard rentals

Both of these places don't usually have good deals on new skis. As for new skis I would recommend the following places:

Sports Authority
REI - tend to be a little expensive though

I hope this information helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have attached a link to ski shops located in Salt Lake City. There are a handful of review for each place.

From what I can tell there are mixed reviews for nearly every store.

When I have been looking around at the shop's homepages. I think "level nive sports" is the best, with most diffrent ski models, and pretty low prices.

But I have not really found out which are the best rental shop/shops up at the lifts in Snowbird and Alta... If you could help me with that problem also it would be awsome! (if you think you or someone else has already answered that question, please refer to that part in his/her post, it might been problem in the language made me missunderstand, in that case I'm sorry.))
- The things they should have to be good/better is much of the new season ski models (allmountain/allround ski category). The possibility to change ski (because I'm going to try diffrent), and lying at the lift.

Thanks again.
