Default Season in US - where??

I'm thinking of going to north america for a year, working, make friends, and see that part of the world works (i am from Denmark). This winter I'll be in europe, but after easter i'm interested going to Canada or USA.

My problem is that I don't know where i should look, I want to be there for 1-3 years, so i don't want to live in a small mountain village. I have thinking about Salt Lake City, Denver, Portland and Calgary. But what kind of jobs is available, when you don't have very much education, and can you recommend some place to look?

Well, Portland is a good option because the season on Mt. Hood is the longest in the country with Timberline Lodge offering summer skiing and riding. The city of Portland is metro enough to offer employment of all levels and the cost of living is not unreasonable.

That sounds good - Portland was one of my favorite citys. After i have researched a bit i have found out that it is allmost impossible to get a work pemision if you don't have a education, so first i have to finish something...

I think a student visa is one of the easiest to get and I believe it entitles you to work with some limitations. We hire a lot of people at Mt. Hood Meadows who are not Americans. It`s something you might want to look into...

I'd try Canada, US resort towns have very expensive housing and pay resort employees almost nothing so most employees must live far from the ski areas they work at. BC Canada seems to have better oppertunities at or near their ski areas than here in the US they aslso aren't in a recession as bad as in the states.

Thank you very much, for the answer. I have thougt about Canada most of it becouse i work for a danish travel agency wich make travels to Canada (and Aspen) - so it might be a bit easier to get a job. But I believe that they are too similar in mind to the scandinavian people, so i want a bit more "challenge" - it is more a education than a ski-vacation. I have also thougt about Salt Lake City, do you know the resorts around it, and is it possible to get one (season)-ticket to all the areas around Salt Lake City (I'm used to the gigantic area in Austria and Italy - so a bit variation is welcommed). What about education, do any of you know anything about this city, i have thinking about taking the last year of a bachelor in turism, do you know where i can look for it? Portland is also a good opportunity.

In California, the Luxury ski season usually starts at the end of november/early december until early april. In Colorado, i think their season starts a bit earlier since its colder over there in the winter and they usually get a lot more snow than we do. Utah might also start around the same time as Colorado.
