Southern Rock Legends Blackfoot and Molly Hatchet Headline at Sugarloaf
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine -- Two of Southern Rocks' biggest names will share the stage on March 15 at Sugarloaf. Blackfoot and Molly Hatchet will both headline the next show in the Bud Light Concert Series, which brings national acts to the mountain throughout the winter.

Legend has it that the term "Southern Metal" was coined for Blackfoot, a Jacksonville, Fla., band with a long history. Touring the world with bands such as The Who, Deep Purple, AC/DC, ZZ Top and Ted Nugent, to name a few, has helped to solidify their place in rock music, while Blackfoot's headline tours gave America their first taste of bands like Def Leppard, Scorpions and Iron Maiden. Blackfoot is probably best known for their hit "Train, Train."
In 2003, a worldwide petition calling for the reunion of Blackfoot, caught the attention of founding members Jakson Spires, Charlie Hargrett and Greg T. Walker, and former lead guitarist Bobby Barth. Before the first note was struck though, it was agreed that, should the band be unable to meet or exceed the expectations of both the members and the fans, it would not happen. Tragically, Spires passed away unexpectedly in 2005, but the band has continued on, bringing in New Orleans drummer Michael Sollars, and returning to their southern rock roots.
Molly Hatchet's self-titled debut album was released on Epic records in 1978 and reached multi-platinum status as the band established its reputation as working hard, playing tough and living fast through intense touring with such bands as Aerosmith, Bob Seger, The Rolling Stones and many more. In 1979, Flirtin' with Disaster was released and history was in the making.
Founding member Dave Hlubek has returned to play with Molly Hatchet after a 20-year hiatus and will be joined by longtime keyboardist John Galvin, and Phil McCormack, who replaced Danny Joe Brown on vocals in 1996 after health issues led to Brown's departure from the band. Bass player Tim Lindsey and drummer Shawn Beamer round out the lineup.
The band has continued performing the classic hits such as "Flirtin' With Disaster, "Gator Country," "Whiskey Man" and "Dreams I'll Never See," as well as more current hits that continue the true spirit and southern tradition of Molly Hatchet.
