Mountain Creek Announces First Event of the Season
VERNON, New Jersey -- Thirty up-and-coming regional snowboarders have been invited to compete in the Union Square Street Sessions Qualifier at Mountain Creek on Saturday, December 14th. What better way to christen the new park, than with this presitgious event, complete with coverage by NBC.
Competition will be fierce, as only the winner of this event, and the qualifier at Sunday River, will be entered to compete with the pros at the second annual Union Square Street Sessions in New York City on February 7, 2008. Mountain Creek's JibLab is already hard at work on the features for February.
But that's not all. Mountain Creek has festivities planned throughout the day, as guests get their first taste of what will be the Largest Terrain Park in the East. At 7:30am everyone is invited for a Red Bull toast to celebrate the start of the season, and keep an eye out for a Red Bull Rep all day to snag a free can. And the lucky All Access Season Pass holders who snag first chair at South at 8am, will win a Special Blend kit complete with jacket, pants, t-shirt, gloves and more. And Red Special Blend will have a tent in the base area throughout the day playing their new video and giving away tons of free swag.
From 7:00-9:00pm, NBC's cameras will roll for the Mountain Creek Union Square Street Session Qualifier at the base of South Peak, giving everyone a chance to see which local riders will be at the top of the competition scene this winter. After the comp, the party moves to the new hot spot Kink (21 and older please) on the upper level of the lodge. The DJ will start spinning at 8 o'clock and NYC rap trio and MTV artists Team Facelift take the stage for their first set at 9 - Team Facelift - with the party going strong all night. But be sure to stick around for Last Call because Special Blend will be buying the last round of the night.

Star-Studded Band Yukon Kornelius to Perform at Okemo Jan. 9
LUDLOW, Vermont -- The Pickle Barrel Nightclub, in association with Okemo Mountain Resort and Warren Miller Entertainment, will host the band Yukon Kornelius for an all-star benefit concert on Wednesday, January 9, 2008. Yukon Kornelius is anchored by Stefan Lessard, bass guitarist from the Dave Matthews Band, who will be joined on stage by Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies and Adam Gardner of Guster. Special guests, such as drummer Eric Fawcett from N.E.R.D and others, will join Yukon Kornelius. Stage and screen actor Jason Biggs will be the host for this special evening.
All proceeds from the concert will benefit charitable organizations including the Vermont and New Hampshire Food Banks and the environmental non-profit group Reverb who works to educate and engage musicians and their fans to promote environmental sustainability. "We recently noticed a story on the news about how there is a severe shortage of food at the New Hampshire Food Bank" said Stefan Lessard. "The newscast showed images of empty shelves and indicated that it was the first time in history they had been forced to rely on emergency packs. We decided to try to do something to help since a group of us will be gathering in the area to ski and snowboard together. Including Reverb is a natural fit since the environment is so important to all of us and each of our bands work with Reverb to green our tours."
Stefan, Ed, Adam and Jason will all be in the region skiing and snowboarding at Okemo Mountain Resort while filming with Warren Miller Entertainment to create a segment for next year's movie. "We are excited to work with such a talented group of entertainers who share our passion for winter sports" said Max Bervy, Managing Director for Warren Miller Entertainment. "The addition of the benefit concert to our on snow film schedule is something new for us and will certainly be a unique experience for those people who are able to attend."
Located on the Killington Road in the town of Killington, Vermont, the Pickle Barrel Nightclub is the premier concert venue in central Vermont. Tickets for the January 9th benefit concert at the Pickle Barrel are $32.50 and will be available online at Pickle Barrel Night Club | Live Music | The House that Rocks Killington Vermont | Best nightlife in Central Vermont starting Monday, December 10, 2007 at 12:00 Noon. Tickets will also be available by phone, or at Jax Food & Games in Killington. On the evening of the concert, doors open at 8 p.m. The age requirement for this event is 18 and older. Loon Mountain Offers Exclusive Women-Only Ski and Snowboard Programs
LINCOLN, New Hampshire -- New Hampshire's Loon Mountain offers exclusive programs for women skiers and riders throughout the winter. Whether a beginner or expert skier or snowboarder, Loon has a program specially designed for a girl of any age.
Starting Sunday, December 16, and running every Sunday morning through the winter, the Women's Breakthrough Workshop is designed for women skiers and snowboarders comfortable on green circle terrain and looking to improve to intermediate, blue square trails, as well as those comfortable on intermediate terrain seeking to advance to the blacks.
The workshop features coaching from Loon's top female instructors, and the cost is $69 per person (does not include a lift ticket or season pass). Reservations can be made in advance or guests can sign up the morning of the clinic at any Loon Snowsports Desk. The Mountainside Rental Shop offers women-specific skis and boots for those who want to rent equipment. "The Breakthrough Workshop is a great program that allows women skiers and riders to learn new skills in a comfortable, relaxed and supportive environment with other women of similar ability levels and around the same age," said Snowsports Director Booie Alward.
Droppin' In Women's Weekend is for female snowboarders of intermediate and advanced levels. Coached by Loon's highly-trained snowboard staff of female coaches, this specialty clinic focuses on all aspects of the terrain park (from riding it to building it), as well as freestyle riding.
Droppin' In Weekends will be held January 12-13, 2008; February 2-3, 2008; and March 1-2, 2008. The cost is $198 per person. All participants receive a goody bag, and the program includes an equipment tuning workshop, video review, a private park for learning new tricks or fine tuning existing skills, and much more.
"What makes this program unique is that we focus on all aspects of the park--improving your skills; how we build jumps; and keeping your equipment in shape," said Loon Events Coordinator, Katie Ross. "Our program was so successful last season, we added two more weekends for this season."
For girlfriends who want to learn together, or those more comfortable in a one-on-one environment, a customized private lesson is the best option. Private lessons can be reserved for up to six people in one group, and can be made for one hour or an entire day. Participants pick their coach, the skills they want to improve, and the terrain on which they want to learn.
Private lessons are offered every day of the winter season, and can be reserved at any Snowsports Desk or by calling 1-800-229-LOON(5666).
For more information and the latest on snow conditions, please visit New England ski resorts - Loon Mountain, NH - New Hampshire's Most Popular Ski Resort or call 1-800-229-LOON(5666).

Union Square Street Sessions Qualifier at Sunday River Dec. 22
NEWRY, Maine -- Snowboarders from across the east coast will converge upon Sunday River on Saturday, Dec. 22 to win their way into the Union Square Street Sessions (USSS) to be held in New York City on Feb. 7, 2008. A prize purse of $3000 is on the line in addition to one spot in the Manhattan event to ride alongside the likes of last year's winner Eddie Wall, Lucas Magoon and Scotty Lago.
16 riders will compete in the nighttime rail jam that will be hosted on the slopeside of the South Ridge Lodge starting at 7 p.m. Eight of the 16 spots in the finals will be filled via the daytime prejam with the other eight being invite only. The Sunday River event is the only New England qualifier for the USSS. Mountain Creek in New Jersey is hosting the only other qualifier event.
Sunday River is debuting a new event venue for the nighttime throwdown. Viewable from the Foggy Goggle Apres Ski Bar, Sunday River's main base area will be transformed into a night lit rail-sliding spectacle. Video crews from NBC will be on hand to document the Qualifier for their USSS coverage.
"I'm so amped to build a venue in South Ridge," said Nick Roma, Sunday River Parks Manager. "Our new Red Bull custom feature will be perfect for this event and the locale will give everyone a chance to get up close."
The 16 nighttime finalists will have a 30-minute open jam to select the top eight riders. Once eight are selected, riders will then compete head to head until one is crowned and offered a spot in the USSS.
Riders hoping to get into the finals can register between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. outside the Sunday Sessions Snowboard Shop in the South Ridge Base Lodge. Registration is $20. The daytime prejam event starts at 11:30 a.m. in the South Ridge Jib Park. More information is available at Sunday River | Parks & Pipes - Terrain Park Home - Halfpipe, Boxes, Rails, Jibs, Jumps and Booters

Snow, Accolades, a New Website, and More Snow at Stowe
STOWE, Vermont -- Nearly three feet of snow has fallen on Mt. Mansfield and Spruce Peak at Stowe Mountain Resort in the past week. The favorable winter weather really started over a month ago, when snowmaking operations kicked into high gear to prepare for another season at the Ski Capital of the East. Today, trails including Stowe's famed Front Four are open with powder conditions and even the Cross Country Ski Center is open earlier than it's been in many years. On Saturday, December 8, Stowe's Gondola area will also open, upping the access for snow seekers to nearly all of Stowe's authentic alpine terrain.
"This is one of our best beginnings in the past decade," comments Jeff Wise, Stowe's communications director. "Seeing is believing right now, the mountain looks and feels like it does during the peak of any given season, it's conspicuous for early December," Wise said.
Great snow isn't all that Stowe has going for it these days. In the midst of a 400 million dollar development, Stowe is reenergized with new lifts, terrain, snowmaking, grooming and a soon to open luxury slopeside resort hotel named Stowe Mountain Lodge. That's a lot to add to the East's premier winter resort and a world-class destination.
Stowe Mountain Resort has been named the ninth best resort in North America according to the Condé Nast Traveler 2007 Ski Poll, the third best resort in the World for terrain and ticket value by Frommer's, and the best resort in the East by Freeskier Magazine.
To celebrate the start of an epic winter Stowe has launched a new website, Stowe Mountain Resort, Stowe, Vermont - Skiing and Snowboarding at Vermont's best ski vacation resort
The aesthetically streamlined site is filled with new media, information and promotions like the Vacation Rewards Program, where tickets can be purchased at a 15% discount by ordering at least 7 days in advance. Stowe's new online presence will also include a viral campaign called 'Find Yours.' The dynamic point-roll banners will enable people to share their Stowe experiences with friends.
