Default Freeze and thaw??

Hey,
I hate to be totally anal about this but im looking for someone to explain this question to me. Im looking to undertstand what process freeze and thaw has on snow pack?

Im also curious if any other colours apart from green, blue, red and black are used on piste maps and if so , for what purpose? Scotland seems to only have the four but somone with a bit more experience and knowledge may shione some light on this for me.

Hope you can help me out, its always better to have an understanding of these things.

Ross

Freeze and thaw is possibly one of the worst things that happens to snow. is it gets reely cold and it freezes its icy and it sucks. after it warms up its slushy(if it gets reely warm) or it is reely choppy.

In Switzerland we also have black diamond pistes which included moguls of I am not mistaken. I hate skiing them as it kills my knees.

yeah and if that process happens a few times during a period of no snowfall, its just impossible to ski. Even snowmakers can't do tooo much because underneith is a nice and painful layer of ice...

That sounds like it could cause some very nasty injuries or perhaps even deaths.
