At the state skiing meet, Sean Munoz was .8 seconds behind his rival in the first run of the giant slalom race.
In the second run, the Natrona County High School alpine skier gained a second on Jackson's Gordon Finnegan, becoming the Individual Giant Slalom State Champion.
Both finished more than six seconds ahead of all other competitors at the meet, held March 6 and 7 in Jackson.
Munoz's even more key accomplishment was taking the Individual All-State Alpine Skiing title. Based on points accumulated through the season, the All-State award requires consistency.
According to NC Alpine skiing coach Tom Ellbogen, Munoz finished in the top five in 13 of his 14 races. Since placing first in the season's kick-off race in Jackson earlier this year, Munoz led the state in points. Though others tried to catch up, he remained on top until the end.
