Default Alpine skiing-Double gold medallist Lawrence dies at 76

Andrea Mead Lawrence, the first American Alpine skier to win two Olympic gold medals, has died at the age of 76.

Lawrence, who took gold in the slalom and giant slalom at the 1952 Oslo Games aged 19, died Monday of cancer at her home in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., her daughter Quentin told the New York Times.

She also competed in the 1948 Olympics in St. Moritz, finishing eighth in the slalom, and at the 1956 Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo, where she took fourth in the giant slalom.

Lawrence was inducted into the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame in 1958.
