Kroell Wins Snowy Kvitfjell Downhill
Austrian Klaus Kroell won Saturday in snowy conditions, taking the first World Cup downhill win of his career. Marco Sullivan (Squaw Valley, CA) was the top American, finishing 19th.
Kroell finished the Olympic course, shortened because of fog, in 1:32.12 minutes. Michael Walchhofer was 0.27 seconds behind to finish second and Manual Osborne-Paradis of Canada, who won Friday's downhill, was 0.46 behind Kroell in third place.
"We started lower because of fog, which wasn't an advantage for our guys. Overall it wasn't the best day for us," Men's Alpine Head Coach Sasha Rearick said.
