Vonn Cleared to Race in Aspen
Reigning Audi FIS World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) was cleared to race this weekend at the Aspen Winternational. According to U.S. Ski Team Medical Director Richard Quincy, Vonn was cleared by the U.S. Ski Team's Dr. William Sterett. Vonn suffered a bruise to her left knee in a training fall last week during the Team's on-snow camp at Copper Mountain, CO.
Vonn, who is the current World Cup leader after two races, is expected to start in both Saturday's giant slalom and Sunday's slalom. She injured the knee last Wednesday but was on snow free skiing on Monday. She was back race training on Tuesday.
The Team is continuing to train at Copper Mountain before heading to Aspen for this weekend's races.
Vonn and teammate Julia Mancuso (Olympic Valley, CA) will be among the favorites when the world's best ski racers take on Aspen's Strawpile race course. NBC Sports will cover this weekend's races with a broadcast Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Fans can also watch the race on UniversalSports.com.
