There's a story behind the painting of a skier that third-grader Romero Stokes has on display at Lester Public Library as part of the Two Rivers Public Schools' art show.
"He's skiing down a hill with his eyes closed because it's his first time skiing," Romero explained.
Although not depicted on the painting, the skier falls over a fence and through thin ice, and his friends help him out, he said.
"This is my first time in an art show," Romero said.
The boy said he is both excited and scared.
"Some of the people might not like it," he said about his painting, explaining why he's scared.
This is Romero's first opportunity to be part of an art show because he is new to the school district, but for those who have been here, it's an annual occurrence.
The Two Rivers School District has held an art show for decades, said Barb Kopetsky, an art teacher at Two Rivers High School and head of the art department for the district. Years ago, before moving to the library, it was held at the high school.
"Usually, it's over 1,000 pieces," Kopetsky said. "Every year it gets bigger."
