Question binding placement Help !

Hi im just looking for a bit of advice/help. Im 27 and have been skiing for a few years now and have just got into Freestyle skiing so I swapped of my old skis and upgraded to a pair of K2 extremes....... all is going well and im having a blast but when im out I see 90% of the other freestyle skiers have there bindings smack bang in the middle ( 50%50 ) When I got my K2's I was asked where I wanted them set and not knowing that much about it told them to do what was best for me and they set them back (maybe 30%70)
. Dose this make a big difference and is it worth getting my bindings reset in the middle ? any advice would be a big help.
OH and SORRY for the long Thread.
Rick

This may not be the latest info, I'm 53 and have skied for 50 years, I had K2 Extreme's in the early 90's the only thing the same as your Extreme's are the graphics. I was aboot and binding tech back in the 90's as a means of getting free lift tickets. Back then skis and boots had markings that were lined up when mounting the bindings to ensure the proper positioning. At that time it was becoming popular for women to have their bindings mounted slightly more forward to compensate for the difference in center of gravity from men. Having the binding's forward was said to make turn initiation easier. I am not aware of current trends and twin tip skis in particular but it's entirely possible what you think you see as bindings mounted more centered is actually due to
smaller boot size than your own and also the possibility that the tip on the tail is not considered part of the running surface thus the appearance the boot is more forward than it actually is. I can understand why someone who rides exclusively in parks might want a 50-50 arrangement which is why I do not discredit the possibility, but if you venture out of the park it may not be optimul.
Best advice is to ask a technician at a reputable shop. If you don't know if a shop is reputable or not ask someone who would know. A freestyle instructor should also be able to field this question. THE ultimate "source" of information would be the SIA.
Unfortunatley there doesn't seem to be much traffic on this site lately, it might be a while until you receive the post you're looking for. I'd love to be proven wrong. Can anybody add any insight to this discussion?
