Kearney Wins in Sweden
Hannah Kearney (Norwich, VT) made good on her promise to be back on top of the podium, winning a dual moguls World Cup Saturday to extend her lead in the overall points. Sho Kashima (South Lake Tahoe, CA) finished fourth in the men's event.
"I didn't like being off of it," Kearney said. "I made up my mind to have better first runs after yesterday."
Friday was the first time this season that Kearney finished outside the top three, finishing fourth, and she drew from the confidence of her past results to climb back.
"I had the advantage of going at end of run order and I skied clean and fast. That gave me the choice of courses for the rest of day," which Kearney said also helped.
In addition she took a different line than yesterday and made the adjustment between the dual and individual format, too.
After Saturday's competition, Kearney and Heil are separated by nearly one hundred points in the World Cup standings.
Sho Kashima was the top American in the men's division, but was not satisfied with the result.
"I finished on two losses. I skied really fast, trying to push the guy next to me make mistakes but it caught up to me," Kashima said.
Still, his result matches season-best fourth place in World Cup earlier this season.
"This year I started at the very bottom and had to ski selections an NorAms and I tried to take advantage of that and it feels pretty good to be where I am now," he said. "I feel like I am within striking distance, hopefully I have proven myself to be a threat."
Following Kashima was Michael Morse (Duxbury, VT) who pulled in his third seventh place finish in a row.
The moguls squad now moves to Norway for moguls and dual moguls Feb. 20 and 21.
