Default downhill strategy

Hello experts
In downhill, when you come to a sudden increase in gradient, is it better to leap as far as possible, or try to stay as close to the piste as possible?
I'd love to know what you think.
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I am no expert at skiing; in fact, just going to learn this season. I am however, an advance boarder. To answer your question, I would really say that a lot depends on your desires and what kind of terrain you have below the sudden pitch. Are you talking about a relatively short disruption in the groomed terrain, or a prolonged pitch? The snow conditions also will dictate how you deal with a situation. If the off piste snow is deep and somewhat soft, it can act like brakes enabling you to get down something pretty steep slower and in more control than on the firmer groomed.

Hope that helps you a little...

Default fast downhill

Thanks for the reply.
I should have said, I want to complete the course in as short a time as possible.

The groomed snow will be faster than plowing through the off piste unless you can cut out distance, by dashing through the trees rather than going around a large bend in the run.
