Vermont's ski season is winding down and Parker Riehle already knows the season won't duplicate last season's 4.3 million skier visits. What Riehle of the Vermont Ski Areas Association and the rest of the industry are hoping for are skier visits that at least fall in between last season's numbers and the 2006-2007 season that logged just 3.8 million skier visits.
"Last year was one of the top seasons of the past decade, and the year before was one of the worst of the last 10 years," Riehle said, "and I don't see how we'll match last year's number, but I still am hopeful we'll be above where we landed two years ago."
As of late last week, four of the state's 20 downhill ski areas remained open: Killington, Sugarbush, Jay Peak and Stowe.
