Women’s Downhill Cancelled at Lake Louise
Snow, then sun, then more snow and gusty wind was the report from Lake Louise Saturday afternoon as the women’s second World Cup downhill was cancelled shortly before 2 p.m. MT.
The race was delayed twice for 30 minutes with hopes that a window of good weather would hold long enough for the 62 racers on the start list to have at the track, which American Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) won Friday for the fifth time in her career.
"It's snowing hard. There are snow showers moving in and out. For a minute it started to get sunny and then another one moved in. The window closed too quickly and it wasn’t acceptable to race," Women's Alpine Head Coach Jim Tracy said.
Vonn was looking forward to gunning for a sixth World Cup win at Lake Louise, and the other U.S. women were disappointed not to be able to compete again.
The women are scheduled to race super G Sunday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. MT.
