Default Best Places to Cross Country Ski in Alaska

Without a doubt, Anchorage is one of the top destinations for cross country skiers with over a network over 105 miles long in the city area and 24 of those fully lighted for night skiing. Kincaid Park, site of countless competitions, along the inlet is a top choice of many city dwellers because you can start and end right downtown close to your favorite eatery. Bi-Centennial Park, the Greenbelt, Hillside Ski Area and more provide easy access from most neighborhoods. And a well known fact.....Anchorage is the closest big city to the real Alaska. It's right on the doorstep with the Chugach Mountains, Eagle River Valley and Ship Creek providing virtually unlimited possibilities from short excursions to major expedition type skiing. If you've never been you should plan a trip this winter. If you have been, what did you think?

Default Sidney Crosby out indefinitely

Sidney Crosby out indefinitely

Crosby said Monday he noticed a recurrence of the problems that sidelined him for more than 10 months earlier this year following a 3-1 loss to Boston last week.

Crosby sat out Pittsburgh's two-game road trip to Philadelphia and New York as a precaution but said he's noticed familiar symptoms during light workouts over the weekend.

Crosby, who missed more than 10 months after taking shots to the head in successive games in January, hasn’t played since developing a headache following a 3-1 loss to Boston Bruins last week.

The 24-year-old former MVP said there is no timetable for his return but he will definitely not play on Tuesday against Detroit Red Wings

He has 12 points in eight games this season, but hasn't scored a goal since netting two in his season debut on Nov. 23 against theIslanders.

Crosby has 12 points in eight games but hasn’t scored since finding the net twice in his electrifying debut against the New York Islanders on Nov. 21. The Penguins are 5-2-1 this season when their captain plays but have grown accustomed to going without him over the last year.

Default Suh declined to answer questions Wednesday

Suh declined to answer questions Wednesday

Ndamukong Suh declined to answer questions about his two-game suspension and car accident after rejoining his Detroit Lions teammates for the first time in two weeks.

"The most important thing right now is this football team and not me individually," the defensive tackle said.

Ndamukong Suh made it exceedingly clear Wednesday that he's done talking about his infamous Thanksgiving Day stomp on Packers guard Evan Dietrich-Smith's arm. But a new twist to the story might find the Detroit Lions defensive tackle facing more unwanted queries.

Suh said he wouldn't change his game after his fourth fine from the league earlier this year. On Wednesday, he said nothing has altered that mind-set.

"I think I can pretty much stick with that, playing within the rules and continuing to play between the whistles," Suh said.

The twist comes courtesy of former Green Bay Packersdefensive lineman Matt Brock, who told KXTG-AM in Portland about a recent conversation he had with Green Bay offensive line coach James Campen.

Default Wade Phillips Has Surgery

Wade Phillips Has Surgery

Though the Texans and defensive coordinator Wade Phillips were officially tight-lipped on Wednesday regarding the surgical procedure that Phillips would be undergoing, the team has announced a statement that sheds more light on the situation.

The team issued a statement declaring that Wade underwent a procedure on his kidney and gallbladder today, declaring he "had completed the surgery and was in stable condition." Here's wishing a speedy recovery to the best acquisition any team made this past offseason.

Wade Phillips has completed the surgery on his kidney and gallbladder,” the team said. “He is in stable condition. In order to respect his privacy, the family has requested there be no further information given at this time.”

Linebackers coach Reggie Herring will run the defense for Houston Texans(10-3) in Sunday's game against Carolina (4-9).

The specific reason for the surgery remains unknown, and the Houston Texans have said that Phillips will miss two games. They cost the Panthers on Sunday, then visit the Indianapolis Colts the following Saturday.

I lived in Anchorage for a little over a year and I LOVED cc skiing there. I've got a ton of recommendations, but for a comprehensive list of locations check out this article I wrote for eHow: How to Cross Country Ski in Anchorage Alaska | eHow.com. I think Kincaid Park is one of the prettiest locations but some of the runs can be very challenging. I'd also recommend trails at Far North Bicentennial and Hillside parks, especially the Campbell Tract trail. Watch out for moose!
