It was such a fitting beginning. After the Blizzard of 1978, there was no shortage of cross-country skiing. A small group of South Shore residents, off work during that first week, became friends and soon formed a loose association of skiers.
The group grew and grew, eventually transforming into the Massachusetts Cross Country Ski Club.
At 7 tonight at Thayer Public Library in Braintree, the club will celebrate its 30th anniversary with an open meeting, photos, slides and refreshments. The public is invited.
The club runs weekend ski trips during the winter. And then, as the weather warms, they organize bike rides, hikes and even kayaking.
