Jauhojarvi, Majdic win World Cup cross-country ski races
Canadian Alex Harvey captured a bronze medal Saturday in a World Cup men's 50-kilometre cross-country ski race.
Finland's Sami Jauhojarvi won the event in two hours two minutes 39 seconds for his first World Cup victory. Tobias Angerer of Germany was second, 21.8 seconds behind but Harvey, of St.-Ferreol les Neiges, Que., was the surprise of the race, finishing third, 33.2 seconds back.
Norway's Petter Northug was fifth and overtook Dario Cologna of Switzerland atop the overall standings. Cologna only managed a 15th-place finish.
Going into next week's final races in Sweden, Northug leads Cologna by 20 points in the overall standings.
Petra Majdic of the Czech Republic captured the women's 30-kilometre event in 1:25.22.2, beating runner-up Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland by 11.7 seconds. Masako Ishida of Japan was third, 12 seconds behind, for her first career podium finish.
Majdic, a 29-year-old from Slovenia, leads Kowalczyk by 91 points overall.
