More than 400 people gathered Saturday at the Northwoods Nordic Ski Trails (at the Northwood Golf Course) to honor and celebrate the life of Judy Swank who died on Feb. 25.
According to Judy's wishes, husband Lee and son Adam organized the event, which included skiing, music and sharing of stories about Judy's remarkable life.
Winter, Judy said, was her favorite season because on its snow she could cross-country ski, a passion which she not only enjoyed but shared with generations of area school children (and anyone else who was interested) by being a coach, mentor and advocate.
In fact, many of the people whose lives she had touched in this way stood up Saturday to share stories connected to the sport to illustrate their love and admiration for this dynamic woman. "I know everybody here was touched by Judy in some way and I appreciate your being here," said Lee.
