I want to learn how to cross country ski, where should I learn to do it, should I get an instructor? What should I do, I hear its a lot of arm work, should I prepare my arms? I am decent at downhill skiing but now I want to try something new. Someone help me!

I would definitely go with an instructor who will be able to answer your other questions. Each person has their own way of teaching. Be prepared for some sore muscles but you will enjoy it.

How long does it take (on average) for a rank beginner to develop into what would be considered intermediate level skill?
