What is the New Zealand ski season like now?
The length of New Zealand's ski season varies from year to year but generally runs from early June until early October down South, and from late June to mid-November in the North.
The prevailing westerly weather patterns and the maritime climate produce unique conditions – cold, powder-producing storms in July and August, and warmer spring conditions from about mid-September.
There are 17 commercially operated ski and snowboard areas in New Zealand, with the rest of the fields run by ski clubs. These non-profit organisations operate accommodation, and welcome club members as well as casual visitors to their slopes.
