Friday 10 August 2007
Steve Coogan will play the role of Eddie 'the Eagle' Edwards in a film about his journey to the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary
The BBC have reported that the life story of Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards, Britain's one time ski jumper, is to be made into a film.
Declan Downey, whose past work includes the comedy sitcom Father Ted, will direct the film and Steve Coogan, arguably most famous for his brilliant role as 'Alan Partridge' will play the lead role of Eddie.
The production team will begin filming in Calgary and the UK in January 2008 and the film should be released at some point next year.
Coogan describes Edwards as 'a very British kind of hero' after qualifying for the 1988 Winter Olympics. Although Edwards finished last in both ski jump disciplines, he won the hearts of many around the world for his charisma, determination and commitment to the sport.
We can't wait to see the combination of Steve Coogan, Eddie 'The Eagle' and ski jumping on the big screen next year.
