Default Ski season drawing to close

Ski season is still in full swing at most area resorts.
But the end is in sight.
Purden Mountain Resort will be open today through Monday and plans to be operating the following weekend, but not beyond, in what has been one of the longest seasons in recent memory.
All 25 runs will be open this weekend, with enough dirt-free snow cover to last until June, according to the Purden website www.purdenmountain.com.
The Easter weekend is an ideal time for cross-country skiers from the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club to try a little downhill action. All Caledonia members will receive half-price lift tickets for Purden if they show their valid cross-country passes. The discount only applies to full-day lift tickets.
As an added bonus for kids at Purden, Peabrain the Clown is expected to be at the hill Saturday and Sunday, juggling snowballs and entertaining the skiers waiting in the lift lines. There's also an Easter bonnet workshop on Saturday, an egg-and-spoon contest Sunday, as well as a Canadian Ski Patrol fund-raising wiener roast and Easter bonnet presentation.
There's still plenty of snow to traverse the cross-country trails at Otway Nordic Centre, but those trails are melting quickly. Grooming will continue daily until Monday.
Tabor Mountain Resort just east of the city is now closed for the season, as is Murray Ridge near Fort St. James. But Powder King Mountain Resort near Mackenzie is still operating under great spring ski conditions.
Powder King has had 19 centimetres of new snow in the past week and there's still a base of 163cm at the bottom and 366cm at the top. CNC/UNBC students can take advantage of special that offers a lift ticket and bus ride to and from the mountain for $50. The Powder King Express leaves from Pine Centre Mall at 6:20 a.m. and from the The Hart Centre Mall at 6:40 a.m. every day the mountain is open. Check Powder King Mountain Resort famous for immense amounts of Pristine Powder for more details.
